His father was one sf the supreme judges of the State, a compeer and friend of Dewitt Clinton, and, as ac? knowledged by Governor Clinton In one of his ' public documents, the originator of the great Erie Canal. Com? pany I, apart of which ls now on duty ht the Citadel,- and the rest at different points around the etty and harbor, wilt also remain. ^PAINFUL ACCIDENT.-Another accident of an almost fatal character was added yesterday even? ing, between eight and nine o'clock, to .the numerous ones already caused by explosions of keroseneoll. A colored nurse, with a white child la her arma, was walking across the apartment, jua: over Mr. F. L. O'Neill's grocery store on King street, with a lighted kerosene lemp in her hani. The wick, it seems, did not flt the lamp tightly, and there being no lever to raise lt or keep lt tn its place, the jarring made it rall through into the lamp. A terrino explosion fallowed, and in a moment the woman was in flames. She fortu? nately threw down the child as the lamp explod? ed, and lt escaped without Injury from the flames. The cries or the woman quickly brought assis? tance, aud in a short time the names were extinguished. Uer clothing was burned from her arm and side, and ber flesh was badly burned from her neck down, the akin hanging on her arm. Dr. Raoul waa quickly summoned, and everything done to relieve her sufferings. Her burna, lt ia thought, will not prov? ratal, although or a very serious nature. THE CATHOLIC FAIR-FITTH EVENING.-The n umber of visltore at the fair last evening was as large aa cn any ol the preceding evenings, and a ? dense mase or humau beings swayed slowly around the hall during the time the rair was kept open.
