Mackey, for malfeasance in oftlco. This Is a mistake; it was from the office of J. G. Mackey. I only ask a suspension of public opin? ion until my conduct can be investigated by thc Courts of the County, to which i will most assur? edly appeal. For the present, I would only state that I arrested *a notorious thief named Dennis Bill, who was charged wltb committing a larceny in Florida, and who had fled to Charleston. The goods were found In hts possession and delivered to the proper owner, and the prisoner, by thc order of Governor Scott, handed over to the authorities of the State of Florida. That port iou of the money I am ?barged with extorting was paid to the order ?f his Honer the Mayor, and by me to the City Treasurer. I would most respect? fully submit to thc editors of the Courier, that lt would more comport with even-handed justice to refrain from giving publicity to cases caleula-" ted to Injure character, until such cases had un? dergone public investigation.
