EARLY CUCUMBERS.-Messrs. Kinsman | & Howell yesterday made a shipment to the North of early .cucumbers. THE ANNUAL PICNIC of the inmates of the Orphan House takes place to-day, at Porcher's? farm, Northeastern Rai broad. Guests who are unable to lea ire on the early train at eigbi o'clock, A. M., can leave in the accommodation train at 130 P. M. which will stop at the grounds. HALF FARE.-We are authorized to state that delegates to the Physician's Convention, to be bold ia New Orleans on the 4th of May, will bo passed over the route from Columbia and Charleston, via Chattanooga and Grand Jonction to New Orleans, for one fare-paying full fare going, and returning free. BOBBERS or COTTON.-On the night of the 26th instant tho establishment of Mr. Aucker, ou Adger's wharf, was entered, and two bales of cotton taken therefrom. Yesterday Officer Nipson. of the detective force, recovered the cotton from the parky to whom it bad been sold, and has a clue to the robbers. THE TRUMPET AGAIN.-At the close of the Orphan's entertainment, last evening, which was crowded to excess, the Marlon was ahead in th? trumpet contest. Unless the other com? panies vote more generally the silver trumpet will certainly be borne off by the Marions. The entertainment. will continue for four nights longer. Id consequence of Mr. P. H. After enjoying a night's rest, the Aromen were ready yesterday for the winding up of the annual celebration. Tbey were to bo seen on all sides, going to and from the Boveral engine houses, which were kept open all day for tho especial accommodation of tho visitors. Some rode about with their Charleston friends, and somo went on excursions around the harbor. The Georgias were taken caro of by ex president F.J. Poroher, of the Phoenix, in hie yacht, in whioh they visited the various points of interest in tho harbor. Tho mombors of the Georgia loft for homo last night, and tho Palmettoes, of Columbia, after enjoying a fine collation at tb e house of their hosts, tho Washingtons, got ready to ?eave this morning. The Winyohs will remain over until Friday, when they will be safely escorted to the steam? er for Georgetown by their friends, the Stone? walls. A PLEASANT ENTERTAINMENT. * Tho Chief of ?he F re Department of Charles? ton, M. H. Nathan, Esq., yesterd*y entertain? ed, at bis residence in St. Philip-street, a large, number of gentlemen, including, not merely tho Presidents and ot lier representa? tives of our own Fire Department, but mem? bers of the visiting companies. The object of the gathering was to mark, in a social and family way, as it were, the kindly greeting which Charleston extends , to ber firemen g?eets. In this disposition Mayor Clark united with the officers of our Department, and all contributed to render tho ocoasion one that will be pleasantly remembered by thdse who participated. The tables wore richly spread, the hospitality was more than generous-it was prodigal-and with the speech and merry? making of the afternoon, ? r?Jne who were pres? ent will find, fault. Unfortunately, one cannot record in the public prints the good things said and sung; but we doubfeif there has been au occasion since the war when wine and whit have flowed more abundantly, or left a more enduring record upon the annals of the social lire of visiting firemen. PRESENTATION TO THE WASHINGTONS, OF . AUGUSTA. The Washingtons, of Augusta, entertained by tho Gormans, presonted the latter with the likeness of Wm. Bryson, Chief of the Augusta Fire Department, whioh adorned their engine when they reached the city and during the parade. The Germans will escort the Washingtons to the ''?depot this morning, and before leaving th oj will be presented with a good picture of theil hosts in Chaimers-stroet. A HUMOROUS INCIDENT, Which happened at the collation of the Phcenii day before yesterday, hasdpaked out, and is too good to be lost. Treasurer W. T. Williams, chief of the "Ku-Kiux" of the Georgia, had an immense tin horn, paoked in straw in a hoi that resembled a coffin. It was gravely laic across the banquet table, and Captain Tuppei was requested to open the mys tie box. Ge a onoe called upon a trusty axman of the com pany, but this being objected to, ho gentlj opened the box bmnsolf, when tho trumpet"*wai taken out amid shouts of applause. Captaii Tupper mounted the table with due gravity and at once presented it to a well-known eon o Anak of the company, who was ordained t< carry the precious heir-loom at every parad) and fire for the next twelve months. DEPARTURE OF THE GEORGIA. The Pheonix company assembled at their en gine house yesterday afternoon, at ? o'clock, ti take leave of their guests of th 3 "Georgia," o Augusta. A table was spread, and after th touching of glasses, Captain Wm. Aiken Kelly first director of the Pheonix, in behalf of hi company, presented the Georgia with the ban ner of welcome that had been extended acros the street. Captain Ad trna, of the Georgia, re ceived the souvenir in a brief response. Cap tain Adams, in turn, presented the Phceni with a large picture of his engine and he officers. Captain George Tupper, of th Phoenix, responded in a felicitous speech, it which he referred to the pleasant relation established between the two companies, an how much gratification he, as well as the men bera of his company, had experienced in bein permitted to. entertain the Georgia.
