Crook, oi tho firm of Moseley & Crook, was returning to his apartment in rear of the store, and as he ooared tho Fireruco's Hull, he heard some one call to him. Mr. Crook con tinued to advance, and when in the narrow defile between the Firemen's Building and his jtore, he discerned a figure in the darkness and rain. Tho next instant a flash blazod in his face, and his hat was lifted from his head. The unknown ruffian instantly fled. Mr Crook recovered his hit, sod on going to a light, found that it was p i foratcd by a ball.
