A hAUdsome and imp)osing ziina ment haa been erected over the grave of Exaovernor BPnja:uin Franklin Porry in the cemetery of Christ Epis copalchurch, in this city. The mon umlent is of a design, chaste and beautiful, and befitting the charactor of thu noble patriot and statesman, whose memory it will commorato. It stands in tho south-east corner of the family burying lot, rising to a height of twenty feet from the grass sod at its feet. The monument is of Barro granite. It consists of three bases, supporting tb die, upon which rests a cap, from which in tu,rn rises the pyramidal spire. The lower Jase is plain. On the wastern face is the name "Perry,' sculptured in bold letters in relief. There are no ether inscriptions on the 1)b5es. On each of the faces of the die are raised tablets on the polished face of which are lettered tho inscription. The western faco contains the follow img: In memory of BENJ. FIIANKI,N PERRY, Born November 20, 1805, Died December 3, 1886 On the opposite face of tLio die apl) pears the following inscription: District Judge and District Attorney of the Southern Contfederacy. State ,enator talld Provisional Governor of South Carolina and United Statds Senator elect. On the southern talet are the words, "The world is better than he lived," and on the north side, ''Safe inl the keceping of everlastiig love." The shaft that, rise's from the cap of the die is phit, except that o the western face is an artistic nonograml of the l. ters ''B. F. P." The wile c(flect of the moumentt is impressive.
