The County Board of Education on Friday sustained T. P. Meetze, S. M. Gross and Karl F. Oswald, trustees of Lexington School District No. X, in the matter of selecting a site for the new ten thousand dollar school building. j * Mr. W. W. Barre appeared before the board with a petition asking that the trustees be reversed and that the new building be erected on the old grounds. It is the contention of Mr. Barre that the site selected is not in the center of the district; that it is only one and three-quarter miles to the line on the northeast while it is fonr and one-half miles to the line on the.southwest. Mr. Barre stated that the new site is one-half mile from ilie old building Followine is the decision of the county board of education: "A petition signed by W. W. Barre' and others having been presented to the County Board of Education for the purpose of reversing the trustees in their selection of a lot for a site for the school building of said district; said petition not showing any substantial reasons why the trustees should be reversed in their judgment as to their selection for location of said site for said school building in said school district; and, it appearing that the best educational interests of the district will be promoted by sustaining the trustees iD their action in their selection of said site for said school building, it is ordered: "That the action of the board of trustees of Lexington School District No. 1, in their selection of a site for the school boilding for said district be confirmed; and it is further ordered: ' 1 f "That said trustees be confirmed, and sustained, in their actions in their selection of said site as it best pro i mote9 the educational interests of I said district, and the petition herein is hereby dismissed. "A. D. Martin, "J. W. Hook, . "W. E. Black, "County Board of Education." It is understood that Mr. Barre vrill appeal from the county board's decision, carrying;the matter before the State board. Runaway Marriage Again N. P. Shipp, the deputy clerk of the court, is making a record for himself almost equal to that of the "Mar rying Parson " Since the 4rh of this month he has been called upon to read the marriage ceremony to four couples, three of them being runaways. J Sunday afternoon Ben Brown and Bertha Summers, negroes, who live close to Mtf. Haskell Shall's plantation, came down, accompanied by a couple who acted as best man and bridesmaid, and although it was Sun day Judge of .Probate Drafts, who is ever ready to oblige, issued the license. In the presence of many witnesses Mr. Sbipp pronounced tnem man and wife. M?????w mk or Store in Le: 3son Drug Co, Lees i to the Secretary. M. EFI LEXINGT( Every Prospect Pleases i For Greater County Fair. The fifteenth annual fair of the Lexington County Fair Association will open on next Tuesday morning, October 24. For the greatest fair in the history of the association every prospect pleases. Tne officers are busy arranging the grounds aud making ready for the opening. TheoLd#uildiiigs are all be- i ing renovated and new ones rapidly going up. A new feature this year will be a bench show in charge of B. H. Barre. A building has been arranged for tne exhibition of the dogs, and this should be a pleasing feature to all lovers of dogs. The usual attractions are being pro vided for, and everything points to a fine "midway." Many entries are already coming in, and the secretary's office will be a busy place until the books close The Lexington fair is strictly aa ag- ! ricultural fair, gotten up and maintained solely for the purpose of edu- ^ eating the farmers along all lines of activity and creating the spirit of competition among chem. Several hundred dollars are paid out in pr.m- ; ium9 each year. Not an officer of the association receives a salary, except the secretary, who receives the nitiful sum of $25. No dividends are paid to the stockholders, the receipts being used for paying premiums, for the improvement of the buildings and grounds and for the further advance-.; ment of the association. ; ! ? Mrs. Price Passes Away. The following, taken from a Florida paper, will be of interest to many "Lexington people: ! "Mrs. L. L Price, of Mims, was la- ! \ ken ill Sunday morning, Sept. 24th. ' Everything that loving hands could ' do was done but to no avail. At 7:30 j p. m. Dr. Wilson summoned Dr Spell and both physicians and nurse did everything possible, but at 11 p m , immediately after the birth of her little baby boy the mother passed awa> very quietly to the great and beautiful beyond, where no tears will ever flow and no sad good-byes will be said. Aside from a host of friends ar.d relatives, Mrs. Price leaves a husband and eight children to mourn her death. The many friends sympathize with them in their sad loss. Mrs. W. N. I Hand, the nurse, took the lit'le babe ? in charge, and did ail that soe could to save it, but Tuesday morning, at j 2:15, after intense suffering, the little j one went to join the angel's bai.d, for j did not the Saviour say: ^ Suffer little children to come unto s me, and forbid them not, for of su?h J is the kingdom of heaven. * Mrs. Prioe was a devout Christian ' woman and of her we will say: i May kind angels guard her sleeping ) dust Till Jesus comes to claim the just, J Then may she wake witn sweet sur- j prise And iu her Saviour's image ri^e.
