A Bine X shows that yon are in arrears. Please make settlement. . Samuel Hyde Baptized , In Anderson Church, Anderson, Oct. 7.?Late yesterday afternoon Samuel X. Hyde, the white man under sentence to hang on October 20 for the murder of his wife, and who also slew her father, was taken by Sheriff King and Deputy Sheriff Martin to the First Baptist church, Where he was baptized by Rev. Dr. Join F. Vines. This was according to an order issued by Judge George E. Prince, who passed sentence on Hyde. Owy a few witnessecUthe baptism, those present being the deacons of the church. Hyde professed conversion several days ago and Dr. Vines sent a petition to Judge Prince asking for permission to have the prisoner conveyed to the church for baptism. Id the meantime several petitions asking Gov. Blease to commute the sentence to life imprisonment are being circulated, and are being freely signed, it is 9ta,ted. H CORLEY, j - At Lexington Depot. J * Drue S. Sawyer. Perry, Oct. 7.?Drue S. Sawyer died I here Monday. He was a son of Mr J and Mrs. George Sawyer and was boin j in Lexington county in 1839. He wat- I a Confederate veteran, serving in Ha- J 4 good's regiment, Jenkins' brigade, J and was wounded twice during the j War Between the Sections. In 1877 I he was married to Miss Endore Vann I Mr. Sawyer's battle was an unequal j one. In 1882 he lost bis left arm in a j v co'rton gin, having lost his right; arm J near Petersburg, Va., during the war. J . The deceased is Survived by nine J children, Mrs. T. A. Jones of North, J Misses Julia, Meta and Bessie Sawyer, I # -V- , ? aid Thomas, Sullivan, John, Robert ( lid Drue Sawyer, and several brotheisaadsisfcus. 1 The fnneral services were held Tuea- r conducted by Rev. About the time Ira was pledg ing himself for life, Chief of Folic Taylor appeared upon the scene, re splendent in bine coat, brass button and star, and the wedding almos turned into a panic before the chie had time to explain that he was onl; a witness and was not there for th purpose of interfering with the nnp rials. Immediately after the marriage Ir; and Emma drove out of town presum ably for their home on Hollow creek and Lexington knew them no more.
