Wednesday, October 7, 1908. !L7o Wator in Angusta. The water situation in Augu9tai9so acute that the people are getting on edge about it. There is one fire en ? ; ?n gine pumping river water witu an na mud and filth into the mains down town, another in the middle of the city pumping through the courtesy of the Riverside mills and another in the southeastern locality. Efforts are beI ing made to install another and Contractor W. J. Oliver, is shipping another outfit to rush the work on the canal. Meanwhile the inconvenience and onfnal anfP?vriritr ia anntp. Thf? watiflr i9 not fit for cooking or for anything except flushing and it smells bad at that. This is crnde talk, but it is demanded by the situation. Every bit of drinking and cooking water has to be purchased or treasured from the supply given oat by the street rail vWy and ochera as if it was gold. There has been but one rain since the freshet and the dust is something awful. It chokes and blinds and even the interior of houses are covered with it. The pressure in the mains is practically nothing and the fire insurance companies' representatives are much worried. The board of health is doing all it can as are the city officials, but Augusta is a place of evil smells ju9t now. Bridgeport, Conn., Sept. 28.?A fine, healthy, two-headed girl baby, weighing eight pounds, has come to Mr. and Mr9. Joseph Falen. Mother and baby are in the Bridgeport hospital and both are doing well, indeed. Doctor and nurse say the baby will live in all probability. Joseph Falen, the father, is a business man and a well known resident of North Bridgeport. Mrs. Falen is the mother of four bright, healthy children. ***1 A ' 1 A T\ w ny uoias Are uaiigerous. Because you have contracted ordinarycolds and recovered from them without treatment of any kind, do not for a moment imagine that colds are not dangerous. Everyone knows that pneumonia and chronic catarrh have their origin in a common cold. Consumption is not caused by a cold but the cold prepares the system for the reception and development of the germs that would not otherwise have found lodgment. It is the same with infectious diseases. Diphtheria, scarlet fever, measles and whooping cough are much more likely to be contracted when the child has a cold. You will see from this that more real danger lurks in a cold than in any other of the common ailments. The easiest and quickest way to cure a cold is to take Chamberlain's Cough Remdy. The mauy remarkable cures effected by this preparation have; made it a staple article of trade over a large part UI LIIO \VUX1U> JL1 "Ji StVIC UV ' ^ ri i . i i i i r. Cupstid, a young man full of grace and grit went to work with the members and soon the house was repaired. Brother Dafle Yonce, the chairman of the committee, showed hi9 faith by his work, and everything was in readiness for the Union meeting the fifth Sunday in August. After the Union the protracted meeting began,*-which continued four days. Rev. Wood Corder, of the Aiken association, did the preaching, 'n&nd large crowds attended the services. Rev. Corder preached with mnoh earnestness and eicrht members were added to the church. The church seems to be united, very much revived and ready for better work. R. J. Faliaw. Had a Close Call.
