C., Nov. 13.?Half an hour after Clarke Norton killed Franklin at White Rock, N. C., Monday, he and Miss Elizabeth Gentry, for whom they were both suitors* were married. Norton wa<s not arrested until the following morning, when he was taken to jail at Marshall, N. C. He was accompanied by his bride, who begged to be allowed to go to jail with him, but was refused. She and Norton assert that Norton shot and killed Franklin in self defense. They say Franklin had found out that Norton and Miss Gentry were going to be secretly married, and had gone to the girl's 1 ? M'? ra>attanfin<r uomtJ lur ujc piuyuoc ui the marriage. Franklin had said that Miss Gentry and Norton should never wed. When Norton made his appearance, Franklin, it is alleged, started the trouble, and Norton opened fire upon him, his first shot taking effect in Franklin's heart and killing him al? most instantly. Twenty ISillion Dollar Passenger Depot. Washington, Nov. 14.?It has been announced that beginning Sunday morning, Nov. 17, all Southern railway trains entering and leaving Washington, D.)C*, will use the new |20, 000,000 passenger station, one of the world's most elaborate and costly passsenger terminals. The trains will come into the city of Washington over the company's new double-track steel bridge across the Potomac. They enter a double-track twin-tunnel under Capitol hill, at the northern end of which the trains enter the new terminal station, connections being made with diverging lines for all points east and west. ?, ? C., Nov. 13.?WiH Sanders, who murdered Anrelia Matthews and her daughter, Carrie Matthews, and afterwards escaped, but was captured by Sheriff M. M. Buford in Asheville, N. C., was found guilty in the court here of murder with recommendation to mercy. Under this verdict the sentence is life imprisonment in the penitentiary. The crime with which Sanders was convicted was, according to his own confession, one of the most brutal in the history of Newberry county. Ileal Lacking, Sills Wife. Without u word he fired two bullets into his wife's head and then turned the revolver upon the sister. He at once surrendered to the authorities. A Nebraska man who undertook to subsist entirely on peanuts starved to djath. Injunction Issued Against Union Social Club. Columbia, Nov. 13.?An injunction was yesterday served on the Union Social Club on West Washington street in Columbia and the alleged proprietor R. Leon Shull, restraining the respondents from maintaining an alleged nuisance where persons are alleged to be permitted to congregate for ihe purpose of buying and drink ing alcoholic beverages. The order was obtained by Attorney General Lyon, who appeared before Associate Justice Gary at Abbeville a few days ago and presented affidavits and comj plaint alleging that the place men* tioned is a nuisance under the CareyCothran law.. The order is similar to the injunction served on various Charleston resorts and is returnable before the supreme court on the 26th of November. Cbriea Hints. Lettuce plants set out now will make early heads in the spring. It is a good time to set out cabbage plants. They ought to be down in the bottom of furrows. Sometimes potatoes planted in December do well. We do : not advise that plan. Wait till spring. In the country pine brush is handy. It is a good protection for cabbage and turnips. If onions are up and growing scatter loose light manure from the cow lot over the ground. They are hardy and will stand the winter.
