I am writing this on the eve of the election and ere these lines reach you I will be clerk of the good old county of Carroll. "Bear Bill," wrote John a few days after the foregoing epistle was penned, "you may consider this a repudiation of my former letter in reference to my race for clerk. This j land, as we understand, lies along the j Southern Extension Railway, about j nine miles from this place, in the sandflats, the most fertile section of Lexington county, the garden spot of the world. These people, it is said, will engage in truck farming on an ex tensivescale for the home and foreign markets.
