Principle Shot fey Pupil. Special to The State. Anderson, April 2?Mr. J. F. Harper, principal of the school at Lowndesyille, was shot twice this afternoon by one of the pupil?, but will recover. He had notice that some of the larger boys were going to absent themselves from school yesterday od account of it being All Fool's day and warned them not to do so. The boys stayed away from school as they had threatened and this afternoon the teaoher kept them in after school to punish them. He began on James Latimer, a boy 17 years, and Latimer produced a rod 1 of iron from his clothing and began to resist. 1 This was taken away from him, when he pulled a Smith & Wesson 1 pistol and opened fire on the teacher. 1 The first shot hit a button on Mr. 1 Harper's coat and the bullet and 1 the button both penetrated the flesh. ^ Then a second shot was fired which * struck a rib, inflicting a flesh wound ( It was at first thought that Harper was mortally hurt, but the physicians 1 -? - - ?- i : i say tnat nis wounas are Dot serious. Latimer fled. Young Latimer is a 1 t i son of Mr. J. T. Latimer, a promi- 1 nent merchant of that place, and 1 nephew of Senator Latimer.
