It was our pleasure to accompany the Treasurer on bis collecting tour of the county during this month and we were agreeably surprised to note the many improvements which have been made to homes and farms in a year's time. Scarcely a place we passed but what showed signs of marked improvement and the addition of convenience and comfort. We were warmly received and hospitably entertained around the hearthstone of our people in every section }f the county, and their kindness and attention will ever be cherished as a pleasant remembrance of a delightful ;ime. Ws were fortunate in having as traveling companions two such jovial tod wholesouled boys as are Treaslrer Jasper S. Derrick and Auditor jr. A. Denick. Tbey were lively as srickets and as merry as a love stricken couth, on the way to his marriage east. Tncle Jasper seemed to know iverybody and everybody knew him ETe was a piime favorite with maids, viJcws and children and it was hard o tell which of the three classes of iweet humanity made his heart >eat fister and his pulse to quicken. Je was feasted on gentle glances, iweet smiles and button hole bouquets, vhicb be solemnly affirms he enjoyed nore immensely than he does the nore prosaic turkey and trimmings vith a yeller legged chicken thrown n for good measure. Auditor Derrick wa3 not a wbit >shind our social Treasurer, but >eing younger in experience he was 8 basbful as a school boy and looked n tbe many little dramas with a ar away wistful look, that seem to ay "turn backward, turn backward,)h, time in thy flight and make me j . lover just for tonight." He wore lis hat after the new fangled fashion he girls have of wearing their hats ow down on their faces completely lidiDg their dancing eyes so that he ould see and not be seen. He tried o persuade us that he greatly preered the backbones and rice, the ausage, spare-ribs, the puddings nd scrambling musb, the potatoes nd bread, the turkey and chicken, o the smiles and glances, the flowrs and ribbons, but we put it down 0 the green eyed monster which omes to us all when we first went parking. He also is well known hroughout the county and is growng in popularity as his sterling forth asamaD, a citizen and an officer ?9C.ome8 more generally known. As for ourself, we have crossed the aeridian of life, our bayday lies in 1 . ? as past ana we amused ourselves by ntertaining the pood husbands and rivep, watchiog the little flirtations f the gay bachelor member of our party, envying the gastronomic >ower3 of the other, devouring the ainties prepared for us and in chasap the Almighty dollar. The collections were very pood nd made the heart of our kind earted Treasurer to sing with gladess. * While at Peak we were gratified o be informed that the Masonic ~>dce at that place had recently efitt9d the hall with new and improved furniture, jewels and working ools; a hands )me Brussel carpet has >een put down and the hall has been epainted.
