It was our pleasure to accompany the Treasurer on bis collecting tour of the county during this month and we were agreeably surprised to note the many improvements which have been made to homes and farms in a year's time. Scarcely a place we passed but what showed signs of marked improvement and the addition of convenience and comfort. We were warmly received and hospitably entertained around the hearthstone of our people in every section }f the county, and their kindness and attention will ever be cherished as a pleasant remembrance of a delightful ;ime. Ws were fortunate in having as traveling companions two such jovial tod wholesouled boys as are Treaslrer Jasper S. Derrick and Auditor jr. A. Denick. Tbey were lively as srickets and as merry as a love stricken couth, on the way to his marriage east. Tncle Jasper seemed to know iverybody and everybody knew him ETe was a piime favorite with maids, viJcws and children and it was hard o tell which of the three classes of iweet humanity made his heart >eat fister and his pulse to quicken. Je was feasted on gentle glances, iweet smiles and button hole bouquets, vhicb be solemnly affirms he enjoyed nore immensely than he does the nore prosaic turkey and trimmings vith a yeller legged chicken thrown n for good measure. The collections were very pood nd made the heart of our kind earted Treasurer to sing with gladess. * While at Peak we were gratified o be informed that the Masonic ~>dce at that place had recently efitt9d the hall with new and improved furniture, jewels and working ools; a hands )me Brussel carpet has >een put down and the hall has been epainted. This lodge is ably preided over by Brother John S. Swyert, who is one of the brightest rlasons in the county and always akes an active part in everything hat pertains to Masonry.
