Union, Nov. 16.?Oss Miller, a negro fireman in Union mills, was crushed to death last night by walking into the large flywheel of the mill engino. Charleston, Nov. 17.?The action of the State board of dispensary directors withholding Charleston's share from the profits of the dispensaries because of the alleged non-enforcement of the dispensary law in this city caused a howl among tho city officials and citizens generally this morning. Their action is regarded as an outrage and tho governor, tho beard of directors and Chief State Constable Hammet are being roundly criticised. Tho county and city officials aro not doing much talking on the matter, for at the proper time they will show their record, which, it is said, will bo satisfactory, but the citizens aro talking and exoresftinor thmi n I" D ***v" minds freely on the subject. *- * * Bad Blaze at Monroe. Special to Charlotte Observer. Monroe, Nov. 17.?About 2 o'clock this morning the residence of Mr. J. VV. Ashcrnft, in the western part of town, was found to be on fire. The firo was not discovered until the roof was falling in. The inmates had hardly gotten out before tho blaze swept hro ugh every room. Nothing I was saved except one or two trunks. The house burned rapidly and before the firo department could roach the scene it had nearly burned down. Tho loss was partly covered by insurance. The fire was of unknown origin. ANXIOUS MOME N IS.
