More About Hydrophobia Among Cattle in Kershaw County. The Columbia State: Mr. R B. Williums, ex-sheriff ot Ker shaw county, while here yesterday related tin account ot a distressing epidemic of hydrophobia in a seciion of the county about seven milts southwest of Camden. A female bull-do?, belonging to Mr. James Team, a prosperous farmer, developed a case of rabies and bit a number of cows in Mr. Team's pasture, where there were 50 cows at, the time. The condition of the *? was not known at the time when it was discovered that the animal had an unmistakable case of rabies, it was killed. But a number of fine cows had been bitten aud several of them have since displayed evidence of the same terrible malady. The dog in its lruutic condition, had run down the river about two miles to the place of Mr. Henry iSavage and there bit several cows. Some of these have displayed signs of rabies and have been killed. All of this happened between 4 p. m. and sundown one afternoon. The dog which caused all of this disturbance was what is known as a "cow dog," and had been trained to herd cattle just ab a shepherd dog watches sheep. Never had it displayed signs of ill will toward cattle, anil its conduct a few days ago excited suspicion. It was very surly and snapoed at the cattle. On the day the dog ran amuck it wa6 seen to bite several ot Mr. Team's cattle and then run away. No persons were bitten, but several (logo came within the range of the rabies inlected beast, and some of these were bitten. One dog at Mr. Team's house, a small feoist, was actually killed by the iniuriated animal. Mrs Team fired at the maddened dog fire times with a revolver, but it relused to let go until lite was extinct in its victim, when it released its venomed fangs from the quivering flesh. Mr. Team had 50 cuws in the pasture at the time, and there is Much anxiety as to what will become ol them. Mr. Williams yesterday saw two ot ihem killed, making seven up to this time. Mr. Savage has killed five. Most of these are milch cattle, valued at $50 each, and the loss is very heavy. Mr. Williams saw a yearling bull affected with the rabies. The first symptoms were slobberiug at the mouth and refusal to drink water. This salivated condition was followed by a period of fretfulness, when the affected animal would not actnullv ultuflr lilt! timnlrl rouaul VMM mm j ^ ' f* UUIU * UOVy II 1 any other animals coming around it. Finally came the period ol rampant wildness, and in the case of this yearling it attacked with impunity a ferocious hull which had been the terror of tin plantation.
