8 Handsome Oil Painting of the Late Gov. Ellerbe?The Work of Miss Strait, of Lancaster. Miss Clara Barrett Strait, Lancaster's talented and distinguished artist, forwarded to Columbia last week the handsome oil painting of the late Gov. Ellerbe to which she re cently gave tlie finishing touches. Belore the portrait was sent oil it was examined by Judge Ira B. Jones, Senator T. Y. Williams and others who knew Gov. Elierbee well, and it was pronounced by all who saw it as a striking likeness of him. Miss Strait is now in Rock Hill, painting a portrait for Mrs. W. L. Roddey of that city. Several important orders, now await her at her studio in Washington. She also has an order to paint auother portrait ot Senator Tillman, having already painted two, one of them being at Win throp and the other at Cleinson College. The Columbia Record ol Satur day had the following to say ol the Kllerbe portrait, on its ar rival in that city: Last night Gen. Wilie Jones received a handsome oil painting of the late Gov. William H. Elierbee, of Marion county, who died in ollice Juno, 1899. This painting is the work of Mies Clara B. Strait, ol Lancaster, and was done trom a photograph by Mr. W. A.
