6 : I Cook Charged with Poisoning Whole Family. Winston-Salem special in Cbarlot'e Observer: Charged with poisoning the family of Mr. 0. F. Moester, in Salem, by putting poison in the coffee, Mamie Shore, a negress, who has been doing the family cooking, was given a hearing to-night before police .Justice Ellis, in Salem. The justice held that there was probable cause and in default of Lond committed the defendant to jail. Ahnut. PifiAPii miniit.es after eatmg supper last night Mis. Moester ami four children were taken violently ill. Physicians were hurriedly summoned. On? ot the children had recovered in ten minutes alter being taken ill Mrs. Moester and the other children continued very ill all night and during to day, but they are now regarded as being out of danger. The Drink Problem in Summer. Drink no "coolingdrinks"during the hot weather. Clean water at the well or sprint: temperature is the perfect drink lor I lie * ? * n n'lm w.trlrc in t lm annrt v mail '? "V/ '? ?'? ?VO ? 14V field, iti the heated haymow, or anywhere else in a warm atmos phere. Leave out all vinegar, all sugar, all molasses, all ginger, all oatmeal, and all alcohol from the *'hot-weather drinks." Vinegar is a powerful poison. Sugar and molasses are heating, not "cooling," foods. Ginger is a constipative and therefore unwholesome. Oatmeal is a food, not a drink, and keeps the stomach constantly at work, which is destructive to that important organ. Alcohol is a poison and can not "cool" the drinker, although it may stupefy him. Water, da-lied wit.li h fluunr nf lpmon inipp is tlia ideal drink. Don't mistake about "sweat." So long as you sweat, you are not heated. When you begin to sweat your temperature falls several degrees. The more you sweat, the more nearly normal your temperature will be.? Don't think that the sweat shows that you are hot. It shows the opposite. Simply supply, in cool water, the moisture removed by the sweat and you achieve the real aim of a "drink." Don't drink buttermilk while you are working in the heat of the sun. Buttermilk is a solid, substantial food, not a drink. Its acid taste may be ploasant, but its solid casein must be digested as a food, and thus it fends to heat the drinker by overfeeding him. The drinker of buttermilk keeps his stomach employed constantly in digestion, and that means dyspepsia, overfeeding and resultant illness sooner or later. Leave out iced tea, coffee and similar un natural things. Every thing con taining sugar must in the end heat the consumer. U-<e judgment, Stick to water. Then you will g( through the hot weather in com Jorf and come out, of it with unimpaired digestion and health.? N. Y. Farmer.
