The Gamecocks' downfall proved to be what was one of their strengths throughout the season: doubles play. Jose Frontera and Johan Sandberg, ranked 26th nationally, lost to the Tigers' unranked duo of Pedro Braga and Janne Holtari at No. 1 doubles. Braga and Holtari pulled the upset 86. Maxsy Jimenez and Jim Panagopoulos, playing No. 2 doubles, were also knocked off by lesser-ranked opponents. Jimenez and Panagopoulos en tered the match ranked 31st in the nation but fell to LSU's combo of Chad Dudley and Ryan Ideta 8-6. Mark Bommelje and Ben Cook, teaming up at No. 3 doubles, had been playing well heading into the SEC Tournament.
