- The Indiana Pacers took a 2-0 lead in their first round series against the

' The Pacers won both games in Orlando and will play games three and

* The Utah Tazz evened their series with the Sours at one game a piece

' The Spurs scored a franchise-record low nine points in the second period
giving the Jazz the opportunity to win the game.
Fight night in Atlanta
; The Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks enter game three of their series tied

Game two, won by the Hawks 104-86, was overshadowed by a fight in

Seattle dumps Denver
The Seattle Supersonics took a 2-0 lead in its series against the Denver

USC beat East Carolina 3-2 and Rutgers 12-4 Saturday. Virginia beat the
Lady Gamecocks 2-1 in the final game of the Virginia Classic Tournament
in Charlottesville, Va.
Atlanta's slump continues
The Atlanta Braves have lost seven out of their last 10 games, dropping
their record to 15-8.
Their lead in the National League East is now just two games over the
Montreal Expos.
American League West still a race/
The Seattle Mariners hold a 1/2 game lead in the American League West,
considered the worst division in the majors this year. Only one team has
a winning percentage over .450: Seattle.
The Mariners are also the only team with more than nine wins in the
division.
Thigpen released by Mariners
Bobby Thigpen, record holder for the most saves in a season with 57,
was released Saturday by the Seattle Mariners.
Thigpen set the record in 1990 with the Chicago White Sox.
Glanville OK after crash
Former Atlanta Falcons head coach crashed in his first attempt as a stock
car driver Saturday.
Glanville was driving in the 117-lap ARCA Foot World 500k race at Tal
> ladega Superspeedway. He finished 29th and was not injured in the collision.

The men's tennis team fell in the
first round of the SEC Tournament
Thursday to the LSU Tigers 4-2 in
Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Gamecocks' downfall proved
to be what was one of their strengths
throughout the season: doubles play.
Jose Frontera and Johan Sandberg,
ranked 26th nationally, lost to the
Tigers' unranked duo of Pedro Braga
and Janne Holtari at No. 1 doubles.
Braga and Holtari pulled the upset 86.
Maxsy Jimenez and Jim Panagopoulos,
playing No. 2 doubles, were also
knocked off by lesser-ranked opponents.
Jimenez and Panagopoulos en
tered the match ranked 31st in the nation
but fell to LSU's combo of Chad
Dudley and Ryan Ideta 8-6.
Mark Bommelje and Ben Cook,
teaming up at No. 3 doubles, had
been playing well heading into the

straight sets 7-6, 6-2.
Panagopoulos won at No. 4 singles
over Fernandes in straight sets 7-5, 62.
Bommelje, playing No. 5 singles,
won the first set against Dudley 6-3.
However, Dudley came back to take
the match by winning the last two
sets 6-2, 6-3.
The Tigers' Leon defeated USC's
Johan Wiig at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-3 to
