The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control regulates tanning salons. They allow customers to tan only once a day. Customers must be tested to determine how many minutes they can tan the first day and each day afterwards. Most tanning salons offer their customers a notebook from DHEC if they request it. "Honestly, there have been no documented health problems associated with tanning salons," Pruitt said.
