People visit tanning salons most
during February and through part
of May because, although life is
hectic, people still want to look
their best, according to Dawn
Pruitt, the manager of Columbia
Tan Spa Inc.
The S.C. Department of Health
and Environmental Control regulates
tanning salons. They allow
customers to tan only once a day.
Customers must be tested to determine
how many minutes they can
tan the first day and each day afterwards.
Most tanning salons offer their
customers a notebook from DHEC
if they request it.
"Honestly, there have been no
documented health problems associated
with tanning salons," Pruitt
said.
