The Concord, N.C., junior currently leads the nation in punting with an average of 48.23 yards per punt on 22 kicks. So you'd think Parker would feel a little pressure every time he steps onto the field, right? Maybe he's thinking that opposing defenses are out tc get him? Naaahh. "I don't see it as putting pressure on me," Parker said Wednesday. "I don't try to think about it when I'm ou! there. I'm much more concerned about that particular punt, and I'm no! worried about what I've done in the past. I take them one punt at a time My last punt, I forget about it after I punt it, whether it's good or bad." Parker says that kicking his average does not concern him as much as jus getting off a good punt. "I'm mainly concerned with putting us in gooa neia position, earner saia. "I don't worry about the stats. Some ot the guys on the team, they kid me about it, but besides that, I don't even think about it. I don't try to figure out my average during the game, but whatever someone tells me afterwards is the first thing I know about it." "I don't try to kick a certain average. In his five years at Appalachian State, he compiled a 38-19-2 record and was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year three consecutive seasons between 1985-87.
