use faces tough foe By TRACY MIXSON Staff Writer Forget recruiting, preseason drills and any upcoming contests against rival powerhouses; USC football coach Sparky Woods said that this week will be the Gamecocks' most important seven-day period of the season. "This is the time to make adjustments," said Woods, whose squad is coming off a 27-21 Victory over Duke this past week and now prepares for Saturday's game against Virginia Tech. "I anticipate us improving a great deal, now that we've got that first game out of the way," the first-year coach said. "We had a lot of communication breakdowns, but hopefully we should improve this week and get everything straightened out. "We did a lot of things wrong ? we didn't even show up at the right time for pregame warmup. But you have to remember, it wasn't just the first game of the year, it was our first game (at USC). Now we're aware of how things should work, and that should make us feel more comfort able for our next game." The Gamecocks take on an experienced Hokie squad with its mind on revenge after last year's contest in Blacksburg, Va.
