Archbishop plar Roman Catholic Archbishop Joseph Bernadin of Chicago, a Columbia native and former USC student, will visit USC next week for Homecoming. The new Archbishop of the nation's j largest Archdiocese will be honored as the ( 1982 distinguished alumnus at the alumni awards banquet in Russell House Ballroom at 1 p.m., Oct. 2. Other Homecoming activities include the annual President's Reception at the ProsiHpnt's House at. 11:30 a.m. Oct. 2. USC President James Holderman and USC Alumni Association President Edward Royall will be co-hosts of the event. Students in the state averaged 378 on the verbal section of the SAT and 412 on the mathematics section. The College Board said Tuesday that both figures were the lowest averages in both categories. The SAT is scored on a scale of from 200 to 800 and the national average was 426 for verbal skills and 467 in math. The highest verbal score average was 522 in South Dakota. In contrast, 48 percent of S.C. high school seniors took the SAT this year. The national average score for the two exams was up three points from last year, hut the average for the two test sections in South Carolina was 10 points above last year's. A Delta official in Atlanta said they would announce Wednesday afternoon a discount program to affect every flight in the Delta system. Eastern and Delta spokesmen said they will remain competitive on all fare reductions. The price reductions are not a "fare war" but instead are being used to encourage air travel during the traditionally slow fall season, said Delta and Eastern officials. Freedom Airlines announced Tuesday that tickets on all its flights to Washington have been cut for 30 days with no restric tions.
