Campus police inter through identificati By John Braun Enforcement of the identification card policy is to help students, not to harass them, a University Police Department official said Wednesday. The policy requires students to show their student identification cards to USC policemen on request. "That's the only means we've got to really make it safe," said Carl Stokes, systems vice president for law enforcement and safety. Campus policemen are instructed to stop "a few people between 10 (p.m.) and the early morning hours," Stokes said. "We're catching more and more people in the buildings who are not students, faculty or staff," he said. The policy was instituted to reduce the number of campus thefts, particularly bicycle thefts and thefts trom aorm rooms, Stokes said. "Larceny is a problem," he said. "That's the biggest crime we've get." Stokes said he asked that the ID regulation be enforced this past spring when HomecomingCi By John Braun A grievance filed Sunday by a candidate f Court was denied Tuesday by the Homecomii The #?lf*otions for Homecoming Qi scheduled for Tuesday will be postponed u Chip Harriford, elections commissione Government, said Thursday. When policemen stop someone without USC identification on campus, officers are instructed to ask him why he is on campus, Stokes said. "If you know someone, or if you have somewhere you're going, there's no problem," he added. if nprsnn has no reason to be on campus, the policeman will record his name and ask him to leave. If he is found on campus again, Stokes said, he will be arrested for trespassing. Stokes said the regulation applies to campus property as well as to streets on and around campus. University policemen have statewide jurisdiction, he said. "All we ask them to do (non-USC students or Dersonnel) is give us a reason that's explainable," he said.
