Campus police inter through identificati By John Braun Enforcement of the identification card policy is to help students, not to harass them, a University Police Department official said Wednesday. The policy requires students to show their student identification cards to USC policemen on request. "That's the only means we've got to really make it safe," said Carl Stokes, systems vice president for law enforcement and safety. Campus policemen are instructed to stop "a few people between 10 (p.m.) and the early morning hours," Stokes said. "We're catching more and more people in the buildings who are not students, faculty or staff," he said. The policy was instituted to reduce the number of campus thefts, particularly bicycle thefts and thefts trom aorm rooms, Stokes said. "Larceny is a problem," he said. "That's the biggest crime we've get." When policemen stop someone without USC identification on campus, officers are instructed to ask him why he is on campus, Stokes said.
