They drink for fun? to get drunk; to ease tension; to escape from pressures or loneliness; to be accepted ; or maybe for a lack of anything better to do. Because so many social activities at USC involve drinking, many students, especially freshmen, may feel pressured into drinking. Many students believe a few beers or a mixed drink or two improves Gamecock football games or helps relieve tensions after a major exam. However, too often, a few beers lead to a few more, and drunkenness is the result. ft A LOW level of alcohol in the hlood arts as a milrt tranquilizer. The body can safely oxidize the alcohol from drinking one drink in an hour. A 12-ounce can of beer, an average four-ounce glace of wine and 11/2 ounces of 80 proof liquor (one mixed drink) all contain about the same amount of alcohol and cause about the same physiological responses. The comment, "I don't have a problem? I only drink beer," is a common misconception.
