MA Aha'C CA By CHRIS HANDAL Book Critic The People's Doonesbury is the third anthology of awardwinning cartoonist Garry Trudeau's work and a must for all "Doonesbury" fans. . The book is a collection of Trudeau's best work from 1978 to * 1980. Trudeau's work has become so important that it is often quoted in news stories. He was the first comic-strip artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning. Trudeau's sense of humor is unique. He can do more in four frames of comics tnan most political writers can do in a whole column. Trudeau is like a surgeon, carefully carving up our lifestyles and political figures with a satirical skill that is unmatched today. No one is safe from Trudeau's pen. Jerry Brown, John Y. Brown, John Connally, Ted Kennedy and Henry Kissinger are only a few of the people who are captured in the pages of The Peoples' Doonesbury. 11-. ? / & : ? ? -AA a. ^uimaiiy uuius a n ee enterprise seminar in an attempt 10 1 COMPUTER SALE I Texas Instruments I6K RAM-26K ROM Computer with Speech. Jerrv Brown is constantly babbling about Starship Earth and John Y. Brown shows his political maturity by answering a question about "affirmative action" by saying that it is "a race horse or something." Trudeau also satirizes such events as Abscam. In the strip, Trudeau broke the story of Conscam: 44 They're calling it </l ? n ' ^unseam, aeverai congressmen, posing as themselves, have broken what is thought to be the largest entrapment ring in FBI history." The National Rifle Association does not escape Trudeau either. Duke, a "Doonesbury" character based on journalist Hlintpr Q 'I'hnmncnn rfnoo ? W. The cartoons are worth the price of the book, but there is an added extra ? a rare interview with Trudeau. According to the publisher, the interview was "obtained under the false understanding it would only be published in a French film magazine." Regardless of how it was obtained, what Trudeau has to say about his work is revealing and interesting. IThe Jewelry Warehouse 2909 Piatt Springs Rd. W. Cola. ] 9 til 6 Mon. Sat.
