The People's Doonesbury is the third anthology of awardwinning
cartoonist Garry Trudeau's work and a must for all
"Doonesbury" fans.
. The book is a collection of Trudeau's best work from 1978 to
* 1980. Trudeau's work has become so important that it is often
quoted in news stories. He was the first comic-strip artist to
win the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning. Trudeau's
sense of humor is unique. He can do more in four frames of
comics tnan most political writers can do in a whole column.
Trudeau is like a surgeon, carefully carving up our
lifestyles and political figures with a satirical skill that is
unmatched today. No one is safe from Trudeau's pen.
Jerry Brown, John Y. Brown, John Connally, Ted Kennedy
and Henry Kissinger are only a few of the people who are
captured in the pages of The Peoples' Doonesbury.

Brown shows his political maturity by answering a question
about "affirmative action" by saying that it is "a race horse

Trudeau also satirizes such events as Abscam. In the strip,

Trudeau's intelligent wit makes the reader laugh and
think. The events depicted in the book are, of course, twisted
to fit Trudeau's viewpoint, but that does not diminish the

The cartoons are worth the price of the book, but there is an
added extra ? a rare interview with Trudeau. According to
the publisher, the interview was "obtained under the false
understanding it would only be published in a French film
magazine." Regardless of how it was obtained, what
Trudeau has to say about his work is revealing and interesting.
