Knisely not to sign it. Like all state college and university Dresidents. Knisely was asked to sign a copy of the federallymandated South Carolina plan which was submitted to the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights for approval early this year. The plan was to be returned to the state Commission on Higher Education by May 7. In an April 23 letter to Higner Education Commissioner James Bostic, Knisley wr te that the MUSC board supports the aims of the plan unanimously. The board wants to increase minority representation among students, faculty, staff and trustees. 1 Presently, the MUSC board is comprised of all white males. But Knisely wrote that the board does "not agree with the proposed changes in the selection and tenure of board members. "Several of the board members expressed the hope that compromises addressing the proposed changes might be accomplished soon," Knisely wrote.
