Ron Mature, would set up a committee of three members, the committee and two non-senators. The commission would work with the USC parking committee to find a solution to inadequate parking facilities for commuting students. - A new parking facility is needed according to Mature because when the new Business Administration Building is completed, 82 faculty parking spaccs will be taken away, which will in turn be taken away from students. Sen. Matt Ward said the senate should delay passing the bill until it is made certain that a new parking facility is needed. WARD SAID the residential life committee is looking into an express system for the shuttlecock which would encourage commuting students to nark in the outlying areas of campus. There are many parking spaces available behind Bates West by the soccer field, but students don't park there because of the irregularity and slow service of the shuttlecocks, Ward said. The candidates for Student Government vice president were asked by Senate President Michael Warshauer to give a two-minute speech to the senate. The candidates, David Clegg, Jeff Floyd and Matt Ward, are all senators. Warshauer said it was "a little unorthodox, but since they are all senators presently and they do run this body, I think it is of special concern to us." The SG vice president is the president of the senate. "I will stand back and let my actions speak for me because you've seen what I can do and you've seen that I have the best interest of the students at heart." Cleggsaid. Ward pointed out his success as chairman of the residential life committee, and said if he is elected vice president "no problem is nncnlvahlp " Ward stressed the importance of fairness in the senate president, especially with the senate responsible for allocating all funds for organizations next year. It's important that the senate president is "going to be responsible enough to say we've got to let' the arguments be decided on the senate floor and not beforehand," Ward said. Floyd said it was the support . that senators showed by electing him president pro tem of the senate which caused him to run for SG vice president. Floyd said his election as president pro tem showed him the senators felt "I'm one of the ones you'd like to see up there, and I have the control of the meeting it takes to run it in an orderly fashion." Miller said the main problem with SG is not finding out what students want and this causes students to be apathetic and have a low opinion of the student senate. Miller has worked with VdI Ulllltf V/Kica iui iwu ji^a 10 uuu will be chairman next year. He was a hall advisor and dorm treasurer in Preston. VOGEL SAID his main reason for running was to represent residents at Columbia Hall and elsewhere and to "give rights back to the residents." Vogel wants to change residency rules in the "Carolina Community" through student court and not through the ad ministration. He feels SG should open ud com mittees to all the people on campus to get more students involved. Vogel, a junior majoring in media arts and marketing, is manager of the student media studio, graphics editor ot this year's Garnet -f Black and a hall representative in Columbia Hall. BECAUSE Columbia Hall is a small district, Lifchfield said he would like to see it represented well and consistently.
