The results of a survey of in dustries locating in South Carolina during 1967-1971 are presented in the "Business and Economic Review" released this week by the USC Bureau of Business and Economic Research. In an attempt to find if "cheap labor" is attracting industry to the state, Roberts and Austin sent questionnaires to managers of new South Carolina plants. Sixty-eight of the firm managers checked "availability of labor" as one of the four most important factors influencing their location with "nearness to potential markets" ranking second. Other factors listed in their order ranked include "favorable at titudes of training assistance," "access to raw materials," "generally lower wage levels" and "favorable climate."
