UNION WEEKEND COMMITTEE Soccer Action TO THE EDITOR: I am a student that has lost inter est in football, not only here at Carolina, but football in general. For me, football is too slow and pre dictable. This happenstance made it difficult for me to release my pent up frustrations that occur in nor mal, every day life. Then my apart ment mate came to the rescue and has saved me from the dulldrums of nothingness on Saturday. He is a soccer player witn our USC soccer club and the saving grace is soccer. There is not a dull moment in the game, as play is rarely stopped. Soccer is so fast and unpredictable that my minimal knowledge didn't affect my enjoy ment of the game. The outcome of the USC vs Columbia Bible College played Saturday, October 14, on field A was a closely played contest with CBC the 3 to 2 winner on a penalty kick with 45 seconds left. Who is Colum bia Bible College (don't laugh)? It's a small school located just past I-20 on S.C. 215 with an enrollment of just over 500. Their soccer program consists of competition between the classes and two games where they send their all-stars over to USC along with at least 300 of their stu dent body. USC coughed up about 50 or 75 fans. At any rate, the game has some thing for everyone: for those who want a healthy player of spectator outlet-try soccer; for those who want a change of pace from the foot ball blahs-soccer may be the answer; for those who want to be cool or show off their magnificently clad bodies-wear your best or worst to the soccer games; for those avid supporters of the greatest head cheerleader in USC history-come shout your lungs out at the soccer games; and if you're a penniless sports fan, like me-the soccer vIUST BRING THIS COUPON SPECIAL ! EDWARD RICHARDS (REINHARC) Face reality TO THE EDITOR: When I read "Abortion Is a Per sonal Thing" I was struck by two things, the personal agony of a heart-sick girl who needs help and the attitude of a college editor whose simplistic explanation offers little real comfort or help. One who does not know the "Bible kind of God" should not attempt to drag Him into their debates yet in spite of His recognition there are some practical facts that intelligent college students surely know. Illicit sexual intercouse often results in the conception of a life and the resultant problems including the sustenance or destruction of that life. Can anyone take away the right of life from another for purely self ish reasons? These should be pon dered before we embark on our own personal fling. You would, I assume, profess to believe in the rights of all regard less of race, color, or creed. Does it really make a difference if that person is a helpless unborn or an inmate at Attica? Debunk the moralist all you wish but have some consistency in human value. While accusing some of being out of touch with reality do not overlook some reality that must be faced. In fact there is even a deeper reality than simply believing in God. There is the reality of personally knowing Him who values all persons. God can be known personally through Jesus Christ. Yes, this is foolish ness to some but His love, His for giveness, His inward cleansing are tremendous healing and comfort to the aching heart of a girl or the cyni cal attitude of a college editor.
