Sports Editor USC's baseball squad employed mass sub s itution while easily defeating the inept Georgia State Panthers twice, on Wednesday 9 0 and on Thursday 12-0. The Panthers, with a record of 0-19 on the year, committed numerous errors, including an unbelievable high of nine in the second contest. Taking advantage of the huge Gamecock leads, Coach Bobby Richardson cleared his en ire bench and used all non-pitchers in the wo routs. Freshman first baseman Hank Small did not hii safely in Wednesday's affair and so his hiiiing streak was concluded at 19 games, I which is believed to be the school record. Small r competed in Wednesday's game despite suf- C fering from a slight case of food poisoning. Carolina starting pitcher Larry Erbaugh and Georgia State starter Dwight Hamner were locked up in a pitchers duel throughout the first four innings of Wednesday's contest. Both pi! chers were working on one-h it shutouts in the fourih inning. In the fifth inning however, USC broke the game open by gaining seven runs on five r singles, two doubles, a walk, a stolen base, and C wo errors by the Panthers. jl Ken Shull, gaining a starting berth over c regular second baseman Tommy Moody, drove in ihe only run Erbaugh needed in the contest s when his double scored Billy Petoskey from F second base.
