North Carolina coach Dean Smith was obviously pleased with the win. "You have to be pleased with a tremendous victory over the team that beat us last year in the tournament. "We know that Winters and Joyce were tremendous outside shooters, so they looked for the outside and we didn't want to give it to them. Maybe that's better than Riker getting the ball in side, but Chamberlain did a great job on him." "I think we played better than we did in the tournament, and I feel like we're finally out of the ACC now. It was strange out there to see two teams with ACC Champions on their warmup uniforms. "We were very active or rather aggressive on the boards. Our board play was significant," Smith continued, "Since South Carolina is such a good board team. When we got the rebound the fast break was always there, McAdoo was there and he let Karl and Previs show how great they really are. Wuycik, McAdoo and Chamberlain all played excellant on the boards tonight." "But I must admit South Carolina did not play one of their better games.
