At seasonally adjusted annual rates for the third quarter of 1971, the personal income of South Carolinians climbed to a new high of $8.4 billion, according to Dr. Olin S. Pugh of USC's Bureau of Business and Research. Pugh said among South Carolina industries the largest third-quarter income gains, expressed at annual rates, were those of farm operators (42 million), manu facturing employees (32 million), and wage earners in wholesale and retail trade ($24 million).
