Georg 9 USC, BY DOUG WILLIAMS Sports Editor An awesome running attack spearheaded by sub quar terback James Ray, com plemented by a fierce defense led the University of Georgia to a convincing 24-0 victory over Carolina Saturday night. Ray, who scored two touch downs, one on an 84 yard jaunt, rushed for 151 yards on 14 carries, leading a ground game that amassed 346 yards. "Old Vince (Dooley, Georgia head coach) has got himself a good team," said USC mentor Paul Dietzel. "I don't know if they are as good as we made them look tonight, though. However, this is the best Georgia team we've played since I've been at South Carolina." If the running game was strong, the Bulldog defense was that much stronger. The Gamecocks were held to -23 yards rushing, which is only 21 yards short of the NCAA record for least amount of yards given up on the ground.
