TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY We've all heard of the panic that set in when Orson Vells read the "War of the Worlds" over the radio on Oct. 31, 1938, despite the fact that the audiences were repeatedly told that the narration was fictious. Texas Tech aired the entire program over the university's radio station KTXT-FM. The students liked it and said that it was easy to see why, in 1938, people panicked. u the spin rhe Four D( towl wines, liquor, & liq IESn by LIFETIME GIJ or The art work on this blllboarc Brick Shack on Pendleton St.) Frats may between Ba USC fraternities may begin to build fraternity houses of their own design on University property. Mehta does not need to b referred to as "Zubin Mehta') cousin," for he can stand on hi own feet (or, his own keyboard which is an awesome way to pla) the piano.) His secret is in hA touch-sensitive, yet decisive an sometimes even forceful: remarkable. The recitial began witt Beethoven's ''Diabelli Variations." This work gave Mehta a chance to show his abilit) to adapt himself to diffewni modes of music. The variation themselves took in a large amouni of musical expressions-from joy, to auterity, to majesty and to the almost ribald sound of a Beethoveln scherzo. Here in the "Variations," the aging Beethoven put the theme through a veritable obstacle course of expressions, and Mehta ran this course very well. This work took up the entire first half of the recital. I Flea I Roan oo RATES Five cents per word with a minimum of 10 words ERRORS If notified within three days. Indeed, thrugh Mitah's performance, one could almost touch the music. The next selection, "Five Pieces for Piano," by a contemporary composer, E. The last number was Bela Bartok's "Sonata" of 1926, a grand way to end a concert-with eastern European colors and fierce pulsed Bartok rhythms. The India Students' Association was fortunate to get this most gifted pianist to come to Carolina. The auditorium was filled, and the audience was appreciative.
