It is Saturday night and you're stepping out into Carter Stadium for your first game before the home crowd as a senior. Wolfpack P To Win Chr The N. C. State players will be fighting for more than revenge and their top spot in the ACC when they meet USC Saturday. The State player who, in thc judgment of the working press at tomorrow's game, has played the best game against the Gam~cocks, will be awarded the D)ick Christie Award. This award was instituted in 1966 in honor of the late Dick Christie. Christie, an All-American on the Wolfpack's 1957 ACC champion ship team, was killed in an auto accidIent. The opposing team on the field is South Carolina. All the seniors remember the Gamecocks. The last time State played USC was 1966, at the dedication of Car ter Stadium. He scored all of State's points in that game, his final three points coming on a 46-yard field goal after the final gun had sounded. The first recipient of the awardl was Gary Rowe. The award was not given last year as State and Carolina did not play in '67. It was in that game in '66 that Biobby Bryant went 98 yards for a TD on a punt return for the longest return in the nation for the season. There are 17 seniors on the N. C. State team, and they'll be out for revenge. They will also be out to keep hold of their standing at the top of the ACC. 'Ie 1968 Wolfpack is a typical State team. 'Iey are going to play good, honest, hard-nosed football. They will come at the Game cocks In a variety of sets, but will use only a small number of well executed plays. Senior Jack Klebe will be han dling the quarterbacking chores in w h a t will be State's unofficial homecoming. Klebe has completed 31 of 69 passes for 352 yards and three TD's. He has also run for a net of 173 yards. Charlie Bowers and Bobby Hall will see a lot of action carrying the ball. Both have rushed for a com bined total of nearly 400 yards. Hall and Bowers have been jacks of all trades. In addition to his running, Bowers has caught five passes for 55 yards and Hall has caught nine for 109 yards. Hall has also been on the throw ing end of two passes. One was intercepted, but the other one went for a TD. Hall and Bowers also return kickoffs and have a combined aver age of 22.8 yards per return. State's kicking game is another Galloway Will Be i Team captains for tomorrow's game at N. C. State are Benny Galloway and Roy Don Reeves. Reeves, representing the defen sive unit, turned in a stellar per formance last S a t u r d a y night against the Georgia Bulldogs. The defensive back from Ameri cus, Ga. snared two Mike Cavan passes and ran them back for a total of 72 yards. A senior majoring In marketing, he has made e i g h t individual tackles and has been credited with five aNsists. In his career with the Game cocks, Reeves has pla';ed all posi tions in the defensive secondary and has also seen duty on the of fensive unit as a split end and as a halfback. Last year he rushed 48 yards in nine carries and caught nine passes for 119 yards. Galloway is a two-letter senior who will be filling in at fulback tomorrow for the injured Warren Muir. He was an All-ACC defensive back in '66, but missed last year because of a knee injury. In '65 he led the conference In kickoff returns. For his career the back from Easley has picked up 714 yards on the ground and 096 yards in passes caught. Galloway has seen little action this year due to an ankle injury which he aggravated during the UNC game. Coach Paul Dietzel decided not to risk re-in juring him a g a i n against G e o r g I a, and Galloway played only as a blocker on a few plays. A healthy Galloway would he of great help in filling the gap left by the absence of Warren Muir. Schwarting did not play against Georgia be cause of a leg injury. Suggs was given the Muir Hits 1000 Mark Before Injury Warren Muir has become the tenth Gamecock to pass the 1,000 yard rushing mark. Muir needed only 23 yards going into the Georgia game to reach this milestone, and he picked up a total of 50 yards before going out with a hip injury. The Fitchburg, Mass., j u n i o r rushed for more yards as a sopho more than any other soph in the history of the ACC. Muir will not play against State tomorrow a n d it is not certain whether he will see action next week against Maryland.
