Campaigns * To Begin At Preston President, Veep Vacate Positions Active ;m the word for the Preston Residence Hall dormi tory government beginning its second year as Carolina's first student governed dormitory. Campaigning will begin to morrow for offices up for grabs in the dorm's fall election next Tuesday, October 5. P'reston President Bill Thomas resigned last week due to the pressure of senior-year classes. Charlie Montgomery resigned as vice-president to se e k Thomas's office. Other offices to be filled in the balloting Tuesday besides the presidency and the vice presidency include three unit governors (one for each floor) and nine judicial board mem bers (three for each floor). Interested residents who meet the qualifications set forth in the governments constitution should file with residence coun selor Jim Anders by 10 p.m. to night. Available to dorm residents within a week will be a tele vision lounge built in the dormi tory basement. The area pre viously had been used by the University for general storage purposes. Also, Dan lireazeale has been appointed by the dorm's execu tise council to formulate plans for a stag party to be held early in October. Power Fail Hits Campus During Week Power failures in several class rooms and administrative build ings on campus this week report edly resulted from inadequate cir cuits and increased power de mands of new campus facilities. Electrical service was inter iupted Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for periods of two hours or more at a time. Residence halls, the Russell House and the School of Business Administration were unaffected. Reports say this area is served by higher capacity cir cuits installed in 1963. The power failures reportedly shut down air conditioning, light ing, office machines and research equipment. Power switches were shut off to redluce the load, and then re'storedl one building at a time. Officials say the power problem is undler studly in a plan to in crease the cap)acity of the entire electrical system.
