PRE al akse ier 195 Carolina Sh Summer Sei By REGINA GALGANO Staff Writer Summer school at the University will be different this year. Instead Ann Kenidriek of having one nine-week session, we will have two sessions of six weeks each. The University thinks this is a good idea, but will it work ? The following opinions, given by stu dents, reflect some of the Student Hody's ideas on the subject. Hilly East: Sophomore - I like the idea. If a student really wants to cain some ci edits, he can earn more this way than on the previous system. It also gives the student time for a vacation if he so desires. On the other hand, it has some fallicies too. There is less time to absorb the material, and one would ... .. \ IN, reaRoy Luc ralhae to work dliligently to. keep upi. i think that it is either an alIl-out effort, or not hing at all. Gayle Youngblood: Freshman I think~ that this new system is goo heruause it gives a student a better chance to plan his summer. F It also gives the teachers a this !hance to make money in the sum- gla ner, and have a vacation. David Cobb: Senior - Terrific! t is about time Carolina got a >olicy like that. Nine weeks gets iring. I think that a person can ret just as much out of six weeks if concentrated work, as he can )ut of nine. Pete Haskell: Graduate Student --I think that it is a good idea, !specially for any of the pre-major ubjects. It gives you a chance to nake up for lost time. 'Ine majority of the better schools Ise this system, and it seems o be an effective way for bring ng in students to summer school. think that if Carolina puts this nto effect, we will gain some of he students we usually lose to >ther schools such as The Citadel, md Wofford. Ann Kendrick: Sophomore - If rou break the summer school ses iion up into two periods it forces theth tudents to put into his six-week thin >eriod what they would normally thm >ut into the work of a ftll semester. i a feel it is unfair to the students! nd the professors to put that great m mount of work into such a short ieriod. It puts too much stress on put veryone concerned. seen Levona Page: Junior - I think hav( t is a very good idea. It gives It tudents a chance to take more thin ourses, and also have time for pres un, if they want it. It also lets thin he students choose when they want clas: o go, instead of going all summer. day. Oy Lucas: Senior - I think is a very good idea, and I am I that the University has adopted Gayle YoungbkIx policy. It is one of the best s that has happened up here long time. A person can get a le semester's work in one sum. and can graduate earlier. any of the larger colleges have this into effect already, and it is to be working fine. As I said. I think it is great. hby Sanders: Sophomore - I k that there would be too much sure on the students.
