Doing many things at one ime isn't unusual for 20-year-old 'ran. A senior biology major, she nanages to find time for a wide ,ariety of activities. On a visit to France she managed to damage Franco American relations a little by dis. turbing the peace in Paris. "I was swinging on a guard rail in the Louvre," she said, "and al most knocked the Mona Lisa off the wall. A guard came screaming toward me and chased me out. I managed to have another guard chase me away from the Arc de Triomphe for stepping on the French Unknown Soldier's tomb." Georgia, Virginia, Arkansas, and Kansas have all been home to Fran, but she likes Formosa best of all and hopes to return there someday. Future plans are rather indefinite for Fran now, but teaching biology, being a lab technician, or doing re search work will be among her choices of occupation after gradua tion. Fran insists that she has no hob bies, but she gave a long list of favorite pastimes. She enjoys peo ple, especially crazy people, playing Russian Bank, ping pong, cooking (hash), and is currently knitting a sweater. Her favorite word is "Bull," Walter Bull, that is. During her freshman year she moved into McClintock for the see ond semester along with her aquarium and two fish. Shortly after her arrival everyone in the dorm started keeping fish. With the onslaught of the first holiday, Fran, Fran B "Tareyton's Dual Fi says Sextus (C'razy Le "There are lots of fldtei "but e plurihus unum S the best taste of the b cigarette that really den I Fran re who lives In Columbia, found her. self responsible for caring for hei two fish, plus 52 others. "Beauregard" was her companior in her freshman and sophomort years. He was a '51 brown Nask stationwagon with a personality "Beauregard" was very tempera, mental and would allow no one els4 to drive him but Fran. She had a hard time herself, for "Beauregard' had to be kicked under the dash board and stomped with the hee before starting. After her sophomore year ai Carolina she went to New York or a YWCA Leadership Scholarship t< study at Union Seminary. "New York was lots of fun People would always turn to loot at me to see who in the world il was who had the thick Southerr accent. Naturally I laid it or thicker than usual and as a conse. quence met some interesting per. sonalities. Mary Martin, Anne Ban. croft, and Eleanor Roosevelt were the most notable." Although Fran vowed in high 3chool never to come to Carolina, her opinion changed after her first hour here. Now she hates to leave and cannot imagine living away rrom the Carolina community. "Carolina is small enough for iveryone to find a place for him ;elf, but large enough for everyone :o meet new people every day. I think a person can achieve any thing here if he works for it. Good grades, an active social life, and lots of fun are to be had for the truly ambitious student." While she was talking, Walter Bull came into the office and perched on the desk to listen. "I'll tell you anything you want to know," he said. "Did she tell you about all her little friends? She has friends all over the world, but the most interesting one is a man who lived next door to her once who had no legs." Fran agreed with his comment, but claimed that she couldn't re member any more friends to talk about. At this time there was another interruption when a worker in the Garnet and Black office came in to clear some material with Fran. "This office is my second home," she declared. "I practically live here." Sarah Krebs came into the office for the tenth time that afternoon. She and Fran began to give an account of one of Fran's birthdays. They went to Fran's house and decided to cook supper and eventu ally agreed to make hash, using all the leftovers they could find in the refrigerator and throwing in all the spices and seasonings in the STUDENT I 5c Discount Per C 1c Discount Per C 25c Discount on W 5% Discount on CHECKS CASI IF I.D. They ate the hash, which Sarah claims fermented during the process of cooking, on buns and then went to Fran's room. A little later Fran's mother came in with a surprise birthday cake-German chocolate. They cut the cake eagerly, wrapped it up in napkins and took it back to the room, sup posedly to eat it there. However, their chef's special hash had suffi ciently ruined their appetites for a week and they hid the cake in a drawer of the bedside table. "I've had many adventures," Fran said, "but that was the most sickening one of all." Another helpless voice called from the outer office, "Fran, what do we do with . . . ?" The editor rose from her chair, pushed Walter off the desk, and proceeded to go to the aid of the unfortunate. 24-Hour Baby Sitter Service Excellent Care For Your Children Phone AL 4-8569 MRS.
