Dean Cranford received his bachelor of arts degree from )uke university in 1928 and his master of arts from Carolina last Spring. While serving as director of the University News Service he taught several journalism courses including the introductory course and the news writing laboratory. Journalism1 is prelominate in Dean Cranford's family. his father was a newspaper man in North Carolina and his only daughter, Bobbie .Jean, is a mem ber of the Carolina freshman class majoring in journalism. Air Force, a Carolina alum nus, has been assigm ' to the stasfl of the Air Force RO'1 C unit. Prior to his appointment at the university Major Anderson was assistant chief of transportation for the Munitions Board under the Secretary of Defense in Washing. ton, 1). C. Major Anderson assumed his new duties at the start of the lpresent semester. He is an asso eiate professor of air science and tactics ai: class adviser to the freshman ROTC calets. After receiving the B.S. (e gree from The Citadel in 1941 lajor Anderson went to active duty with the Air Force. He saw service in A frica, India, England, France and Germany. While in France he was commanding officer of the Civil Affairs Detachment sta tioned on the French Riviera. In 1945 Major Anderson entered the Carolina graduate school, lie completed academic Work for the Master's degree in Business Ad. ministration at George Washing ton university. Major Anderson is married to the former Frances Lewis Peyton. an alumna of USC, and a Colum bian. They have two young daugh ters, Sally and Gail.
