Even though we are all having a big time, we haven't for one moment stopped thinking of those of us who are in the service and are spending this Christmas far away. You'll be interested in the fact that we have been buying war stamps r.t the YW booth in the canteen in hopes you'll be here to join us with our caroling next year. As for the doings . . . You might be surprised to hear that the sororities are thinking of turning Coker College into a Pan hellenic house and student union . .. It would be something like the old days when the fraternities and sororities kept open house all day on the campus . . . The Kappa Sigs have already moved back on homeground . . . They are now holding forth from their new room in DeSaussure College . .. Last week-end we all had lots of fun . .. for on Friday night the Phi Kaps threw a party at their house and on Saturday night we had our choice of the gaiety of the Phi Kappa Sig's or the Lambda Chi's . . . Pikers were entertained at their domicil by Lt. Quentin Wood of the Columbia Army Air Base. And this week ... Tuesday night to be specific the Delta Zetas had a party for all the sorority pledges . . . Kappa Delta's and alums were feted Thursday night by Mrs. Copeland of Columbia ... In the making for this week-end are the KA plans for a houseparty at Toots Walker's cabin near Pontiac . . . beside that there are four parties tentatively on the schedule . .. they are to he given by the Pikers, the Sigma Nu's, tho Lambda Chi's and the SAE's . . . Slated for January 26, the Independents' formal is already the subject of many a canteen conversation . . . All play and no work is not the motto of Independents' . .. no sir, they are sponsors of the canteen in Wade Hampton . You'll be especially interested in the alumis who have been here . . . People went into hibernation. others contem plated suicide, still others just walked around with that well known expression in their eyes. The only consolation during these long hours of trial is that nothing lasts forever-not love, life or mid-semester examinations. The reason for this clamor :s none other than the nerve-racking, though necessary, mid-semester which are to end Dec. 21 with the beginning of the Christmas holidays. Each co-ed is to check the class she would like to enter for special training and return the notice containing her choice to Mi,. Anne Royall, chair man. Among the various activities to be offered after Christmas are classes in: Nutrition. Canteen, Home Serv ice and Staff Assistant Training, Nurses Aid, First Aid, Home Nurs ing, and Recreation. Hillel Names Heads For Fall Semester Saturday Dance Initiates Social Program Of Group At a recent meeting of the Hillel Society. officers were elected to head the (organization for the fall semester. New officer, arc as fol lows: Robert FIelner, president; Carol Shapiro, vice-pore"ident; Edith Goldman. recording secretary; Mi riani Robin, corresponding secre tary; and Allen Eisenberg, trcasurer. A social committee n as appointed composed of Toby Ellison, Phyllis Karesh, Dick Strichartz, and Don Robinson. Sue Greenspan and Sara Gotbaum make up the religious and cultural committee. Hillel is an organization which has as it, three-fold purpose the promo tion and development of cultural, religious, and social interests of all Jewish students enrolled at the Uni Versit_y. On the social side of the program, Hillel sponsored its first dance, Saturday night, December 9, at the American Legion Hut. On the cul tural and religious side, it has planned a round of varied activities for future meetings. Plans includes speakers, panel discussions, and quiz programs.
