Dear Donald,
It's almost Christmas and Carolina, as usual, is getting the,
holiday spirit by partying. Even though we are all having a
big time, we haven't for one moment stopped thinking of those
of us who are in the service and are spending this Christmas far
away. You'll be interested in the fact that we have been buying
war stamps r.t the YW booth in the canteen in hopes you'll be
here to join us with our caroling next year.
As for the doings . . . You might be surprised to hear that the
sororities are thinking of turning Coker College into a Pan
hellenic house and student union . .. It would be something like
the old days when the fraternities and sororities kept open house
all day on the campus . . . The Kappa Sigs have already moved
back on homeground . . . They are now holding forth from their
new room in DeSaussure College . .. Last week-end we all had
lots of fun . .. for on Friday night the Phi Kaps threw a party
at their house and on Saturday night we had our choice of the
gaiety of the Phi Kappa Sig's or the Lambda Chi's . . . Pikers
were entertained at their domicil by Lt. Quentin Wood of the
Columbia Army Air Base.
And this week ... Tuesday night to be specific the Delta Zetas
had a party for all the sorority pledges . . . Kappa Delta's and
alums were feted Thursday night by Mrs. Copeland of Columbia
... In the making for this week-end are the KA plans for a
houseparty at Toots Walker's cabin near Pontiac . . . beside that
there are four parties tentatively on the schedule . .. they are to
he given by the Pikers, the Sigma Nu's, tho Lambda Chi's and
the SAE's . . . Slated for January 26, the Independents' formal
is already the subject of many a canteen conversation . . . All
play and no work is not the motto of Independents' . .. no sir,
they are sponsors of the canteen in Wade Hampton .
You'll be especially interested in the alumis who have been
here . . . Jimmy Pearce has been calling on his KA brothers
Staying with the Kappa )elts for a few days was Jane Fish
burne and Dottie Fripp, now of the Waves, passed through Tues
day just to say hello to the Delta Zetas . .. The Pi Phi's are
awaiting the visit of Flo Millard of Asheville . . . She's expected
this week . . . We've been gadding about, too . . . Mina Silver
man, Sigma Delt, spent last .week-end with friends in Camden
Wylda Pennington traveled all the way up to Greer to see
Louisa Montgomery, a former ADPi . . . Rebecca Busby and
Muriel Black went home to greet Rebeeca's sister . . . Jimmy
Morriss took Bezzy Pennington with hini to Georgetown for a
stay with his family . .. Barbara Goode tripped it to Newberry
for a dance . .. Betty Koty journeyed to P. C. to attend a Pi Kap
party and Mary Lib Nance sponsored for the Pi Kap formal at.
Furman.
Everywhere you look in the canteen there are proud wearers
of new sorority and fraternity pins .. . Recently initiated were
Nibbie Forbes and Mildred Belser into Tri-Delta; Donny Boyd,
Briek Bradford, Berkley Wilson and Sims Oliphant into SAE
. . . Sporting pledge pins are Martha Cobb of ADPi; Henry
Plowden, Almond Leach, Ben Smith, Joe McReynolds and
"Dutch'' Brembs of Sigma Nui; Vie Brabhan, Buddy Riggs, Al
Fisher, Joe Hamrick and Frank Champmian of SAE; Sam Bar
rett, George Brier, Averett Campbell, Harry Kenny, Bobby
Hlicks, Pope Scurry, Keith Phillips, Paul Weiler, Bill Knight and
W. H. Goodwin of Pi Kappa Phi . . . Tri-Delts also welcomed
into the sisterhood Jane Campbell and Barbara Keene, Tri-Delt
transfers from Florida State College for Women.
Heading the Sigma Delta pledges are Elaine Hack, president;
Ireno Stern, vice-president; Marcia Bass, secretary-treasurer;
and Ruth Sholk, pledge captain . . . And. .. mustn't forget . . .
* Dodie Browne, KD alum, was nmarried to Capt. Francis Clark at
noon Saturday.
That's all for now ... You must write us of the really big do
ings going on over there.
Love,
Margaret.

Of Merry Chrigtmas
For the past week everyone at
the University of South Carolina
has been in an uproar. People went
into hibernation. others contem
plated suicide, still others just
walked around with that well
known expression in their eyes.
The only consolation during these
long hours of trial is that nothing
lasts forever-not love, life or
mid-semester examinations.
The reason for this clamor :s none
other than the nerve-racking, though
necessary, mid-semester which are
to end Dec. 21 with the beginning
of the Christmas holidays.
After all the worry of facing a
Christma, with THIAT report star
icr you in the face as flash comes
from the mighty office of Miss Ilol
land that reports will not be sent
out for mid-semesters and a sigh
of relief is heaved until it is no
ticed . . . but those who have made
a "D" or below will . have their
parents notified. Ouch:
Const Jan. I. t'45. I hereby re
olve to get dow n to work. Well,
