Twenty-four games including battles with Duke, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Georgia, Roanoke, Marshall, and Clemson will see the Gamecocks playing on an average of once every second day throughout the month of February. Coach Ted Petoskey has not been able to name a starting lineup as yet. The Michigan All-American football end, who shoots for his second suc cessive state basketball title this year, said that no player would be able to go the full forty minutes of a basket ball game under the fast-break system used by the Gamecocks. "The new rule, abolishing the center jump ex cept at the opening of the game and the half, will speed up the game trc iendously," said Petoskev. "Add to this the speed of a fast-break system B and you realize the necessity for a large C squad." added the Gamecock mentor. A large part of the success of the a 1936 edition of Basketeers was the - work of a pair of fast-moving, sharp shooting guards, in the persons of Tom Hutto and Captain Bernard James. The Patrick brothers are --John, head football coach at Oglethorpe University for the past few years, and Frank, star Pitts burg fullback this season. The Journal said that a confer ence was held a few days ago in Columbia between the Patricks and the South Carolina authorities. They may be signed as assistants to Head Coach Don McCallister. The brothers came to Columbia because they had heard that there were openings in the Carolina coaching staff. John Patrick re cently signed a new one-year con tract at Oglethorpe at a salary in crease. "There is nn obstacle in the way of Frank's acceptance of the job," the Journal said, "and it is very likely that he may serve as backfield coach at South Caro lina."
