Carolino Intra-Mural For Seaso Begin Within Next Week Boxing, Track, And Basketball Offered For Tenements And Fraternities With a number of former Carolin ians to act as officials, intra-mural competition in track and basketball will begin within the next ten days. Jack Crawford, director of gym ac tivities, announced early this week. t Handsome 24 inch trophies to be awarded in both of these sports are 1 now on display in the canteen. Indi- 1 vidual medals will be awarded in va rious events. f, Each tenement and fraternity will n be allowed to enter a track team of b not more than ten men. These teams C should be organized at once in order ii to get as much practice as possible. a All regular college track and field events will be held except the two mile ti run. A four man one-halt mile relay ti will also be included in the meet. h No track shoes will be allowed, but contestants must run in tennis or s basketball shoes, or if desired, they tl may run barefoot. Eligibility rules are as follows: no n man can compete in any sport in it which he has taken part as a member t< of a varsity or freshman team here or elsewhere; a man can compete in any I sport in which he has not taken part g as a member of a varsity or freshman u% team here or elsewhere. Members of one tenement will not tl be allowed to compete for another tenement except by special permis- A sion, and this permission will be given c, only where there is an unusually small r number of students in the tenement. Ilh The track trophy will he awarded to sl the winning team. If a tenement is the winner, the trophy will be given to the man who is considered the most val uable man on the team by the intra mural track committee. This com- t mittee is composed of Messrs. Varr, Thomas. and "lBully" Farr, of the Piggly-Wiggly stores, who have each taken an intense interest in track at Carolina and who act as officials at the dual meets here. While track is being run off, the basketball tournament will lbe held in the gym and field house. The lines on the gym floor have been repainted, ti and new baskets have been put up for this event. As in track, if a tenement wins the F tourney, the trophy will be awarded to the man who is considered the most valuable man on tihe team by the b)asketb)all committee. C. State ramecock Cagemen Drop Both Games To Conference Leaders Only After Stiff Battle Carolina's basketeers were defeated y Clemson, Saturday night to the tue of 43-30 and the Red Terrors of C. State continued the losing streak y copping the cage battle Monday ight 39 to 23 over the Birds. Playing the Tigers on even terms 'r the first part of the game, the stub iorn Gamecocks finally were subdued y the taller Clemson quintet. The 'lenison squad has not been defeated i the state and this victory practically ssures them the state title. With the score standing at 16-9 at le half, the Birds came back strong, ed the score and drew ahead but this ad was short-lived. Spearman was the star for Clemson, looting as many points the first half ian the entire Carolina squad. Guy Lipscomb, tall sophomore pivot ian, fouled out with the score stand ig at 23-23 and from this point, the am seemed to go to pieces. In the game with the Tarheels, the ird quintet played one of their best ames of the season but were over heled by the uncanny shots of C. State from outside the free irow line. They have not lost a match this sea son, having beaten the Gamecocks, 15 to 4, in Columbia the first of Jan uary.
