Boxing, Track, And Basketball
Offered For Tenements And
Fraternities
With a number of former Carolin
ians to act as officials, intra-mural
competition in track and basketball
will begin within the next ten days.
Jack Crawford, director of gym ac
tivities, announced early this week. t
Handsome 24 inch trophies to be
awarded in both of these sports are 1
now on display in the canteen. Indi- 1
vidual medals will be awarded in va
rious events. f,
Each tenement and fraternity will n
be allowed to enter a track team of b
not more than ten men. These teams C
should be organized at once in order ii
to get as much practice as possible. a
All regular college track and field
events will be held except the two mile ti
run. A four man one-halt mile relay ti
will also be included in the meet. h
No track shoes will be allowed, but
contestants must run in tennis or s
basketball shoes, or if desired, they tl
may run barefoot.
Eligibility rules are as follows: no n
man can compete in any sport in it
which he has taken part as a member t<
of a varsity or freshman team here or
elsewhere; a man can compete in any I
sport in which he has not taken part g
as a member of a varsity or freshman u%
team here or elsewhere.
Members of one tenement will not tl
be allowed to compete for another
tenement except by special permis- A
sion, and this permission will be given c,
only where there is an unusually small r
number of students in the tenement. Ilh
The track trophy will he awarded to sl
the winning team. If a tenement is the
winner, the trophy will be given to the
man who is considered the most val
uable man on the team by the intra
mural track committee. This com- t
mittee is composed of Messrs. Varr,
Thomas. and "lBully" Farr, of the
Piggly-Wiggly stores, who have each
taken an intense interest in track at
Carolina and who act as officials at
the dual meets here.
While track is being run off, the
basketball tournament will lbe held in
the gym and field house. The lines
on the gym floor have been repainted, ti
and new baskets have been put up for
this event.
As in track, if a tenement wins the F
tourney, the trophy will be awarded
to the man who is considered the most
valuable man on tihe team by the
b)asketb)all committee. This coinumlt

Guy Lipscomb, tall sophomore pivot

In the game with the Tarheels, the

Field House In Last Meeting
Of The Season
The Carolina Gamecock cagers will
clash with the quintet from Furman
Monday night at the field house at 8
o'clock.
The Furman squad will be greatly
strengthened this time by the rein
statement of all the players who were
suspended for infraction of training
rules. The Purple quintet is finishing
the season in second place, having lost
to the loop leading Tigers. At Green
ville earlier in the season, the Purple
Hurricane managed to eke out a hard
fought battle over Carolina by a close
margin.
Carolina who has been growing in
strength since the opening of the sea
son will throw their full strength into
the fray in a last desperate effort to
improve their league standings.
This game is being played because
of the unfinished tilt between these
rival teams that was suddenly ter
minated when the lights went out.
