The reason assigned for tins action of the Government is the ivaiit of the necessary HiUds for the payment of witnesses and jurors. For our part, we believe it mfehiis a practical aban donment of the bases. The hirelings of the Government have doubtless be gun to realize the fact tfiat the charges abb unfounded, and that it will be use- less to attempt conviction. They have a pght to “case themselves down,” alid 6'ii that score the subterfuge is perhaps pardonable. Jenny June gives another chapter of “How We Live in New York,” Miss Kate Sanborn an amusing sketch, entitled “The Conundrum of the Nineteenth Century,” Mrs. Hun- gerford 0b6 of her popular articles, iTndMiss Hetta Ward “Home Art and * Home Comfort.” These, with many othor articles of interest, and? “Cur- fchl Topics/’ and the various depart ments, make up as iuteresting a num ber of this readable magazine as we have yct had.
