The Election Casks.—The political
trials have been indefinitely postponed.
The reason assigned for tins action of
the Government is the ivaiit of the
necessary HiUds for the payment of
witnesses and jurors. For our part,
we believe it mfehiis a practical aban
donment of the bases. The hirelings
of the Government have doubtless be
gun to realize the fact tfiat the charges
abb unfounded, and that it will be use-
less to attempt conviction. They have
a pght to “case themselves down,”
alid 6'ii that score the subterfuge is
perhaps pardonable. If the easel be
ever c&iied again it will probably not
be before the next regular term of the
court In November.

of Dr. E. B. Turnipseed, of Columbia,
S. C. He had been dangerously ill’for

not ahtfgfcth®f uncxpect&i. Dr. Tur

of his profession, and Wail /♦isffif-

as a sprgeon. He served through the
Crimean war in that capacity and
through a gr^ttbr portion of the late
war. The deceased was abovt fifty-

Aiken, of Winnsboro, has in his posses

where to be found. Among them is
the seal of the Provisional Govern

brass, with Ihe inscriptioiis around the
edges: “Provisional Government.”
“Confederate States of America.” In
the centre is a scroll, and on it are writ

It bears a marked resemblance to the
